October 21, 2009 This is week four in our Friday Night's Best Poll and we have some great submissions for you once again. Every week we ask you, our readers, for plays and players and outstanding teams that deserve a special mention. These are some of the best efforts form last Friday! Come inside and see what we came up with. This is Volume 4:Ian Perkins; Jefferson High School Running back: Ian had 9 rushes for 303 yards a sack and a forced fumble! Chance Hendrickson; Thurston High School: Chance was 24 for 34 for 352 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for another touchdown. as Thurston beat Springfield 69-20. Brennen Wolvert; Wilsonville: In a close game with Century, Brennen threw for 340 yards and 4 touchdowns. One touchdown came with 1 minute left and the Wildcats down 27-34. Two passes later, the Wildcats were in the end zone and with the 2 pt. conversion, won the game. Hill High Defensive Line: The defensive line totally controlled the line shutting down one of the best offenses in 5A. They have been under rated and deserve recognition. Kevin Bannister: Centennial High School: 2 rushing TDs, and 1 Receiving TD. All in a 3 minute span in 3rd quarter to break game open, and defeat Reynolds. Brett Smith; West Salem: Brett Smith, the QB, of West Salem was 12-18 for 289 yds, 4 TD's passing and 11 rushes for 161 yds and 2 TD's in a 60-27 win over South Salem. Zach Maillard; Creswell: Zach rushed for over 250 yards, 4 tds, and passed for 1 td all in the first half of Creswells 58-27 win over Jefferson. With two of his touchdown runs coming on a 45 yard and 65 yard touch down runs. He is close to 1500 yards rushing on the season with 3 more games to go plus state. Jordan Johnson; Sheldon: Johnson was once again incredible for the Sheldon Irish, in a big win over Grants Pass. The senior quarterback was 14-of-22 passing for 319 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. Johnson also had 58 yards rushing, and made several big plays on defense. Johnson has established himself as the best quarterback in the state of Oregon, and should be a strong contender for Player of the Year. John Campbell; Sheldon High: Campbell continues his torrid pace as Oregon's leading receiver. Against Grants Pass, he had 7 catches for 149 yards, and two touchdowns. Jake Ovgard; Triad (8 Man): Jake Ovgard lines up at three different positions for 8-man Triad. On Friday in Powers, Ovgard scored four touchdowns and three for two others. He scored on runs of 12, 3 and 37 yards, caught a touchdown pass of 25 yards and threw two touchdown passes of 35 and 27 yards in the 68-8 victory at Powers. He had 66 yards on 9 carries, was 2-of-2 passing for 62 yards and caught three passes for 49 yards. Lucas Corder; Roseburg: Lucas really made the difference in the game. Scoring FOUR TD's on Friday night and rushed for 128 yds carrying most of the team load himself and securing the win for his team in the absence of 3 starters. I think he is the perfect candidate for Friday's Best.. Steven Peterson; North Medford: Stephen Petersen had two interceptions for North Medford against Josh Milhollin from South Medford in the 24th Annual Black and Blue Bowl. Milhollin had 11 TD's and no interceptions on the season coming into the game. It was Petersen's 4th Interception on the season, including one that was returned 63 yards for a TD in the season opener...while he played with a cast on! Anthony LaCoste; West Albany: He came back! He rushed for 231 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries to help second-ranked West to a 34-20 home win against Lebanon. Nick Rothstein; Jesuit: He had two knockdowns against Aloha and he is playing the run tougher and tougher each week. His strength is actually on offense. He is a solid factor as a 10th grader for Jesuit. Colt Lyerla and Mikkel Smythe; Hillsboro: Three tousch downs each against #1 Sherwood to stun the Bowmen. Great job guys! Go Sparts. There they are. Look at some of these efforts. Incredible! Oregon football is alive and well and better off then ever. Wow! Thanks to all of you that submitted information and votes and keep up all the good work recognizing your team and players! |
