Records Shatter At The Hands Of Thomas Tyner And Warrior Nation

A week ago we tendered a story that evoked a lot of responses.  Thomas Tyner The Best Ever  featured the Aloha High School phenom and his team and laid out our belief that he was the best Running Back in Oregon history.

Many of you jumped in and the debate began.  It was a healthy one.

On his 18th Birthday Thomas Tyner laid to rest any doubters by annihalating the State single game rushing record.   Not by a little bit but by a mile.

According to our good friend and football historian Mal Van Meer the record was help by Joel Williams of North Douglas High School.  In 1998 he ran for an amazing 481 yards on 35 carries and 5 TD's.  That was a night to remember.

But last night in front of Warrior Nation "Dash" as he is called on Twitter went off.  He went off to the tune of 643 yards and 10 Touch downs on 38 Carries.  Tyner led his Warriors to a 84-63 Victory over Lakeridge in a game that may take weeks to break down the stats.

That is 17 yards ever time he touched the ball.

Seven of his Ten TD's were for more then 40 yards with runs of 41,62,60,65,48,41, and 46.

This was according to some National Sources the 3rd greatest Rushing Performance in the more then 100 year History of Football in the United States.  That is some rarified air in deed.

There was drama and back story.  People questioned his durability and if he was injury prone in 2011 not knowing he was training for Olympic level track, fighting a bad hamstring and the concussion he had last year.

It was an 18th Birthday for Thomas.  And this was the same team and game last year where he was hit and concussed knocking him out for 3 or 4 games.

Were he and the Warriors looking to make a statement?

"Definitely.  We had to make a statement and that's what we did," said Tyner.

Boy did they ever.  Thomas said at the end of the game that he was going to celebrate by going him and going to sleep!  Awesome stuff from an awesome kid.

Thomas did announce that he plans to graduate early and move on to Oregon in the Spring where the Ducks can expect this young man to up his game even higher.  Imagine a 208-215 pound running back who is faster then the Black Mamba.  Yikes!

There will be a ton of feedback and interviews and he has already been covered on local radio and news and now on ESPN and Sports Center.  Why not.  It is all part of the fun and focus on the High game which is where he wants to dwell for now;  with his team mates and Warrior Nation.

The 6'0"-208 pound Tyner now holds the fastest 100 Meters in Oregon history at 10.36 Seconds and the single game rushing record as well.  Certainly more will be set as he has now amassed:

  • 1,245 yards Rushing
  • 17 Rushing TD's
  • 60 yards receiving
  • 1 TD Receiving
  • 2.5 games
  • 20 yards per carry plus
