No one is really surprised by kid and schools switching their minds anymore in this verbal battle of commits and de-commits that culminates in a frenzy as signing day starts February 6th. And one of Oregon's very best flipped his decision last week and is now heading South instead of East.
Johnny Ragin III of Wilsonville High School was pledged to BYU. No longer. He is now pledged to be a Cal Bear. And that is a significant power shift for both schools as the 6'3″-220 pound OLB is considered quite a catch.
Ragin says he saw new aspects of Cal at his official visit he had not seen before and that they opened his eyes to what was really in front of him. Rating the visit a complete 10 Johnny seems certain this time he has the right school dialed in.
What is he looking forward to the most?
"I'm looking forward to gettin' down there and getting to work. To get ready for this upcoming season!"
That is one thing Ragin is good at. Work! He is a tireless worker one and off the field and carries a near 4.0 GPA.
His defection leaves BYU on short and Ragin's team mate Tanner Shipley could be the next to flip as Boise State is hot on his tail. That decision is coming in the next 24-48 hours. Time will tell if BYU has a good Class or not.
Brayden Kearsley and Dallin Leavitt are both dialed in at BYU and that is going to send two of the best in the West there. Ragin and Shipley would have been some thick icing on the Cake!
Best wishes to Johnny Ragin at Cal.
