It would be easy to say that this is no big deal. But then you would be wrong. Because making it into the Top 100 for Rivals.com for National Football rankings is no easy task. That is widely regarded as the hardest list to get your name onto. Those that make it every year are certainly going on to college if they keep it all together on the field and in the classroom.
Given that imagine how hard it must be to make the Top 10 on the same list! That is rarified air for sure.
Well leading the charge and doing just that are two Northwest natives. Max Browne from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington and Thomas Tyner of Aloha High School in Aloha, Oregon. Browne made the list at #8 being the #1 QB in the Nation. Tyner came in at #9 and was rated as the #1 RB in the Nation.
Wow!
In the near decade that we have been covering prep athletics in the Northwest this has never happened. Some former NW super star duos have made the upper eschelons. Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Colt Lyerla made it in 2010 to the top 30 and in 2011 it happened for Zach Banner and Joshua Garnett. But never has there been such a highly rated pair from the Region.
Looking at these two kids it is easy to see why they are so highly regarded. Max Browne has been spectacular and thrown for 8,216 Yards and 95 TD's in two seasons. His acccuracy has been at the 70% mark and his QB rating right at 131. He also ran for 2 scores and took his team to the State finals two years in a row; winning it all in 2011.
For Tyner he has put up 3,000 yards, 32 TD's, and averaged about 12 yards per carry in the past two seasons. He has fought through numerous injuries but is electric anytime he gets the ball. His 4.38 laser speed is well documented and we have him as the 3rd fastest running back in existence at any level. Those things coupled with his 212 pound muscle bound frame and his 6'0" + height have schools frothing at the mouth.
Both Tyner and Browne were issued a full 5 Star ranking last month by Rivals.com and that is also a rare thing to see happen for a High School Junior. Very few athletes have ever been rated so highly coming out of the Pacific Northwest.
Thomas is a firm verbal committment to Oregon where he is widely regarded as a dream tail back and will compete for the U of O Track team and for Olympic aspirations which he realistically has.
Browne has as many as 40 offers and is wanted by programs ranging from the U of W to Alabama. He has not time table yet for a decision but will no doubt have any option he wants as he moves forward. There is not a better athlete out there and he leads a loaded class of Washington QB's this year including Kolney Cassel of Eisenhower, Sefo Liufau of Bellermine Prep, and Isaac Dotson of Newport HS. All three of these guys won Honorable mention at the Army All American Combine in January and could easily be D-1 recruits at the QB spot.
So today we celebrate these two special kids because they have earned that right. Every bit of it. Moreover they help take the message of Northwest Prep Football to an ever growing list of schools and coaches who are hungry for top talent. By their acheivements at the highest levels we find that all of our kids shine brighter.
Are there others here for the taking that can shine equally well?
You bet! And with both States having record recruiting classes we need to have our champions take the message and the story of our joint successes with them.
The secret is out. The Pacific Northwest is a place you had better come as a Collegiate program; regardless of the level. The talent here is simply that good.
Because of kids like these and their Coaches and hard working staffs more and more athletes from Oregon and Washington are getting to college on schlarships at some level.
That is the goal of all we are doing here at Northwest Prep Report, WashingtonPreps.com, and OregonPreps.com. For us as a football community to continue to succeed in this mission we have to work together.
That is why we continue to produce our Prospect Watch Lists and to distribute those lists and the kids film and contact info to every program in the country. That is being handled for FREE as we send the lists once a month by our special email systems to 1,300 schools from the NAIA to Division 1 level.
The goal is to find a home for everyone that we can. Workign together wih all of you that goal we set 8 years ago is now a reality.
And we need so much more help. To become a writer, analyst, blogger, advisor, or champion-sponsor to this cause please contact Dirk Knudsen today. This is about the kids. No one else.
Huge Props and congratulations to Thomas Tyner and Max Browne on all they have and will acheive. Thank you for representing your families, your schools, leagues, State, and the Pacific Northwest guys. We are very proud of you both today; and that goes for all the rest of you hard working athletes too!
