Hilbers Could Be Oregons Next Big Thing

I can not get over the performance that I saw one linemen put out on this season as it has stood out in my mind as being really very good. I finally caught up to Beaverton High School’s big man Jared Hilbers. The kid is one heck of an athlete and has a nose for this game.

Right- 6’7″ Jared Hilbers uses his long arms to defeat opponents and move them off their path; often with ease!
Those solid feet and punishing hands seen in a Junior in high school are tell tale signs of a kid with a future in the game if all things play themselves out. Add to that Hilbers massive 6’7″ 265 lb frame and his ability to run and you have a top prospect. Now he has a long way to go of course before he heads out to any big time college but he is not just another big kid.
Jared is a basketball player and likes the game but says he loves football.
“I am playing basketball and enjoy it but football is where my heart and future are,” said the Beaver. ”I think it helps me to be a better football player.”
His film showcases a kid who can play every down on both offense and defense and not diminish over the course of the game. He says he loves the heat of the battle and while defense is fun and comes easy nothing is better then ear-holing an unsuspecting defensive player trying to attack his team. That is the toughness and grit that makes a great offensive linemen. He has played Tight End and stressed that as well.
“I know I play offensive and defensive line but these hands can catch,” he stressed chuckling as he did admitting he would love to play TE but will go wherever his opportunities call from in college.
Team are just starting to find out about this guy so not too much college recruiting action yet but he plans to get to some camps.
“I have been warned not to just run around to camps. I am going to see what colleges want me to come out and make sure to get to those events this next year if I can.”
Does he have a favorite school?
“It’s pretty much Oregon,” said Jared. ”The family here are all huge Duck fans. So maybe that might be a possibility. I am really open. If I went to Oregon I would pursue Business. If I get an offer from UCLA it will be Medicine. I am going to look to stay out West and in the Pac 12 but really I am wide open.”
Tommy Thorpe who plays for the UO baseball team is his cousin and Adam Thorpe played linemen for the Ducks about a decade ago; so there is a family connection.
He is a 3.5 student and plans to make academics a priority. He hopes to be invited to the U of O and OSU for invite camps this next Spring. As for right now this big kid is trying to help his Beavers prepare for Westview. The Beavers and Wildcats are tied at 4-2 and this game will for sure impact seeding for the playoffs. Beaverton High, Coached by Bob Boyer for many years, is a team known for post season runs. Hilbers plan to make a run this year and next along with Sophomore QB Sam Noyer z(6’4″- 185lbs) and guys like Junior Bryce Barker (6’3″-185 lbs WR/Safety) & Junior Chidubem Nnoli (5’10″-190 lb RB). This is a young talented team and having kids like this is going to help in that cause.

At this point he reminds us of Brayden Kearsley (Aloha HS 2013-OL-BYU) only taller. And that folks is a very big compliment. best of luck to Jared Hilbers and the Beaverton Beavers from here on out.
