Leunen was the second junior to win the award. Former Barlow Bruin Freddy Jones was the other player to do so, and Jones won it again his senior year before becoming a standout player for the University of Oregon. Leunen is being recruited by Cal, Gonzaga, Oregon, Oregon State, and Stanford.
Leunen was joined on the First Team by fellow junior and State Title Game Finalist James Loe of Hillsboro. The 5'11 PG led the Spartans to the State Title Game after finishing 4th in the Metro League. Loe averaged 20.0 points per game during the regular season, and continued his brilliant play at the state tournament. Loe is another likely D1 player who's getting interest from various Pac-10 teams, as well as Gonzaga.
Jefferson's Thomas Gardner was the most dominant senior in the state this season averaging 25.5 pts per game and 11 rebounds per game. The 6-5 SG has committed to the University of Missouri.
Jordan Oathes of Southridge is another Metro League player who made the First Team. The 6-4 Metro League MVP led Southridge to the State Tournament and is receiving interest from some D1 schools. He may consider walking-on at a Pac-10 school as well.
Kory Mahr of Grants Pass rounds out the First Team. The 6-6 post led Grants Pass to the State Tournament with a 14.6 ppg and 7.9 rpg average.
