We covered the comeback team of the year, the Milwaukie Mustangs, two weeks back and took a look at their team and top players. After decades of loosing Coach Don Johnson has brought the program back to winning ways. Winning last night in one of the toughest leagues in the State was huge. Especially over cross town rivals Rex Putnam.
Mustangs Coach Don Johnson made some adjustments to his offense after loosing to Wilsonville and realizing that the Mustangs were not putting their biggest play maker in a position to shine. So he moved Richard Ramsey to the QB spot and that proved to be a brilliant move. Last week Ramsey ran and passed for 300 plus yards and 6 TD's.
Last night against DeShawn Stephens and the Kingsmen Ramsey went off again having 411 yards and 6 TD's; three through the air and three on the ground. They beat a very good Putnam team 46-26 under Ramsey's leadership and legs. Johnson looks like a pretty smart coach right about now.
But the story does not end there. Wide Receiver Kendrick Bourne poured it on from his WR spot and had in one game the two best catches we have seen this year. The Human Highlight reel that is Kendrick Bourne had three TD's through the air and two of them were 1 handed grabs that on further review will have college coaches giddy.
Bourne cleared the NCAA Clearing House according to Johnson and has a host of schools on him now.
RB Robert Akil also got into the flow with two rushing TD's and some big time plays all over the field. Really great to see that development for him.
This is a great team folks. Very well coached. Fun to watch. And clearly bringing pride and excitement back to Milwaukie.
